Doyt Echelberger “” Timothy Nyman’s instruction is highly effective because he is gentle and patient and deeply committed to finding what works for each student. He intuitively senses personal boundaries, individual capabilities and motivation, and he paces the instruction to take advantage of and enhance what his student can already do. He routinely demonstrates how to do it with more ease and grace and joy, frequently with the help of Annessia. Timothy helped us melt away the individual rough spots that slowed our progress. Many of our lessons eventually became something that we mastered through practice and could use in social dancing. We found this very rewarding. We returned year after year for instruction because we observed that Timothy and Annessia cared deeply for each of their students, and for the art they represent. Tara Tibayan “” I studied ballroom at Black Tie studio with Timothy Nyman as my instructor for several years. Timothy is an excellent and knowkedgeable teacher. His technique is impeccable. Though ballroom dance can be personally expressive, Timothy teaches the correct steps and frameworks , building a strong foundation to allow his students to become dancers. I have been out of dance this past year because I has surgery on both of my hands. The pain in my hands matched the pain of not being able to dance. I am still recovering, and when I am able to dance again there is no question that I will sign up to work with Timothy again. · ·

Jerry Flegal “” Pam and I were Black Tie Dance Studio’s first students when they open the studio in Sandusky over five years ago. Timothy has the patience of a saint and is always willing to review any dance move or technique with you. His teaching style is relaxed and low pressured. Most of our lessons have been with Timothy, but we have experienced Annessia teaching at open lessons and she is also excellent. She has a great sense of humor and is fun to be around. Sara Ochs Beard “” Black Tie is THE best place in the whole area for ballroom dance! I have taken lessons both with my husband and on my own with Timothy and Annessia. And not only did my husband and I have a blast learning the dances (and getting closer), but the instructors are so insanely knowledgeable and experienced and know dance (and teaching it) so well that they can literally teach ANYONE. They have this uncanny knack for helping each individual person learn – for instance, my husband and I learn differently when it comes to stuff like this, but they had no probem helping us successfully master many steps that I first thought way too difficult. The instructors at this studio are caring people who genuinely do this because they love it and love to help people – and you can tell when you’re in their studio. They have also donated their time and passion to many local causes, from elaborately choreographed fundraisers to simple demos – and that tells me that they care about their community and neighbors, not just about their own business.
